The City, along with the Cities of Sacramento, and Mammoth Lakes, CA will be posting skiing events again, dates and venues change, so check the NV PVA web site for details. As always, these programs or ‘use it or loose it’ in nature. Enough said. OEF/OIF/OID Vets reading this, you have a great resource in Christie Lambert, RN and the Reno VA OEF/OIF/OND Program Manger. Should you have any VA issues, contact her, you’ll find a strong advocate in your corner.. A quick revisit to my remarks about past Springs mixed bag of victories for disabled Vets, like rules for TSA and their screening types allowable, to mixed victories like disability as defined the EEOC, to a loss in what the standards of safety are in the Generic v. Trademarked prescriptions debate. The recent Supreme Court decision in Actavis, Inc. v. Demahy, No. 09-1501, June, 2011, the Court held that generic drug companies do not have equal levels of responsibility as makers of brand-name equivalents, in updating their warning labels when significant new risks emerge. This becomes scarier as most generics are manufactured overseas and the VA’s reluctance to use brand-name equivalents. Posturing for the next round of elections is starting, and if you are not registered to vote, register now! If you don’t vote, you have no rights to complain about things post election. In closing, I’d like to remind Las Vegas residents that the attempts to ‘mainstream’ adaptive van rentals at McCarran International may be short lived. See PN Paralyzed News, May 2011 for original story and the five airports initially involved in this program. Payless Car Rentals has been told by upper management to start ending the program due to lack of rentals. Please file any letters of protest with Suzette Gerfy, City Manager Payless Car Rental Las Vegas, (702) 736-6147 ext 2005 or sgerfy@paylesscar.com, web site at www.paylesscar.com. Suzette will forward all letters and emails regarding this to her bosses; Suzette is in our corner in this issue. To those that travel to Phoenix, the program at Sky Harbor, PHX’s primary passenger airport, has quietly died to lack of use. RIP! SPORTING: Please visit the NV PVA website at: http://www.nevadapva.org/ as there are constant updates for National to Local Sporting Events. These range from Para-Olympics to recreation, often at greatly reduced prices to free. The City of Reno First Veterans Para Competition was a great event, although not well attended.
